Energy Recovery - The Optimal Solution

Energy generation (fuels, electricity or heat) is the optimal way for non-recyclable waste treatment. This process is called Waste to Energy Recovery and is promoted and supported worldwide. In accordance with circular economy principles, in the process of pyrolysis the plastic is “reverse engineered” into the basic materials that produced it – oil / gas, and is returned to the economy as an energy resource or as a raw material for plastic production.

The common linear economic model today (“take – use – throw away”) ignores the environmental consequences and the future availability of natural raw materials. This model accurately describes what happens to plastic today from the moment it is created until the moment it reaches the landfill. In contrast, the circular model proposes a sustainable economic model in which each resource is utilized a maximum amount of times before it completes its role in the economy. The recovery of energy from plastic waste has a twofold contribution – plastic returns to play a role in the economy and in addition, the destructive consequences of landfilling are avoided.

Plastic waste contributes to approximately 60% of the total oil produced in the process.

The main source of oil is in a synthetic material, which is not biologically degradable, and therefore is an alternative to the conventional crude oil extracted from a virgin source. From this oil, it is possible to extract alternative fuels that will be used, among other things, for heavy transport (ships, planes, engineering tools, etc.) that is almost entirely dependent on liquid fuel. Alternatively, the oil product can be used as a quality raw material in the petrochemical industry.
